Tips for Parents and Teachers Concerning Children Using the Internet
These suggestions come from the publication “Internet Safety and Protection” by Five for One Publishing:
--Keep the computer in a visible place in the classroom or home.
--Set clear limits as to the type of websites that are acceptable to visit.
--Monitor the child’s online time, activities, and contacts.
Advise the children to:
--Use only your first name or a screen name.
--Never give your complete name, your school name, or share personal
information such as an address, phone number, social security, etc.
--Do not respond to messages or emails that make you feel uncomfortable
in any way. Tell an adult.
--Always tell an adult about anyone who harasses you or uses bad
language.
--Do not open email from people you do not know or click on links in emails
from someone you do not know. Doing so may take you to inappropriate
websites or infect your computer with a virus.
--Do not download pictures, text, software, or other files without permission
from a teacher or parent.
